Former Nigerian winger, Garba Lawal has commended the Super Eagles for their victory over Guinea-Bissau in Monday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Recall that Moses Simon scored the only goal of the match from the spot kick to give all the three points of the match and restore their lead at the top of the table.
The three-time African champions had lost their position at the top of Group A standing following a shock 0-1 defeat to Guinea Bissau in the first leg match at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja earlier on Friday.
However, in a chat with Completesports.com, Lawal stated that the Super Eagles had it difficult picking the three points against Guinea-Bissau.
He said that the Guinea-Bissau’s pattern of play made it tough for Nigeria to break through their defence.
“Guinea-Bissau really made it life difficult for the Super Eagles. In fact they were made to sweat for the three points and could have been a different story if the host had taken some of the chances that came their way.
“This is a big win for Nigeria after that shock loss in Abuja and I am happy we are back at the top of the group.”
