Red hot Victor Osimhen and the rest members of the Super Eagles must raise their game to an exceptional level on Friday to beat The Djurtus [Wild Dog] of Guinea-Bissau in their 2023 AFCON qualifier, Nigeria’s 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup winning coach, Fanny Amun, has told Completesports.com exclusively.

Amun who also assisted Adegboye Onigbinde as Super Eagles coach at the 2002 Korea/Japan FIFA World Cup says Guinea-Bissau will not come easy and that is why the Eagles must be at their exceptional best to win well against their second-placed Group A opponents.

“Osimhen in particular has to be exceptional as the Super Eagles ‘poster boy’, he has to lead the forage on their guests by scoring as many goals as possible. The Eagles cannot afford to be complacent, otherwise, we shall pay dearly for it,” Amun told Completesports.com in an exclusive interview.

“Nigerians want to see Osimhen score goals for the Super Eagles as he does week in and week out in the Italian Serie A for SCC Napoli. He has to show that stuff that stands him out in Europe, as an exceptional talent. He has to carry the team with goals.

“The Super Eagles are more blessed with players than their Friday’s opponents, but we all know they are good and will make things difficult for us as they did at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon. That is why I am insisting that our boys must be exceptional.”

Asked for his view on Osimhen moving to England to ply his trade in the English Premier League (EPL), Amun posits that the player should be allowed to make his choice, adding that as an adult, he knows where his bread is well-buttered.

“Napoli is a big club in Europe and with Osimhen as the top scorer in the Serie A, they have 19 points lead on second-placed Inter Milan and they are in the quarter-finals of the Champions league. I know he is in demand but the decision to stay or move is his choice,” Amun concluded.
