Super Eagles winger Alex Iwobi was handed a starting shirt but failed to rescue Arsenal who fell to a 1-0 defeat to Belarusian side, Bate Borisov in the first leg round of 32 game of UEFA Europa League on Thursday at the Borisov Arena, reports Completesports.com.
Iwobi who was on target in the Gunners’ 2-1 Premier League win against Huddersfield last Sunday played the entire 90 minutes of the game.
Stanilav Dragun scored the winning goal for the home team on the stroke of half-time.
In another Europa League game played on Thursday, Henry Onyekuru also ended on the losing side as his Turkish club, Galatasaray lost 2-1 at home to Benfica of Portugal at the Turk Telekom Stadium, Istanbul.
Eduardo Salvio opened scoring for Benfica from the spot in the 27th minute, while Christian Luyindama equalised for the hosts six minutes before the hour mark.
Haris Seferovic however hit the winning goal for Benfica in the 64th minute.

Nigeria forward, Peter Olayinka played as a substitute in Czech Republic side, Slavia Prague 0-0 home draw against Genk of Belgium in their Europa League clash.
Olayinka came in for Jaromir Zmrhal on the hour mark.
