Cyriel Dessers has accepted responsibility for Genk’s 2-1 home loss to champions Club Brugge in Sunday’s Belgian Pro League clash, reports Completesports.com.

Hans Vanaken put Club Brugge ahead in the 22nd minute after he was set up Emmanuel Dennis.

Dessers missed the chance to equalise for the hosts when he failed to convert from the spot two minutes after the break.

Theo Bongonda restored parity for Genk from another penalty a minute after the hour mark, but Dessers conceded a cheap corner which led to Brugge’s winning goal seven minutes from time.

“We played a good second period,” a disappointed Dessers told reporters after the game.

“But this defeat is my responsibility, because I miss the penalty and in addition I conceded the corner on Badji’s goal. I have to do better. It’s a shame, because after the break we put more pressure and we played better.

” It was a great opportunity to take points and we didn’t deserve to lose this Sunday “.

The 25-year-old has scored once in four league outings for Genk this season.

Brugge will travel away to Beerschot for their next league clash on Monday, September 14.
