Ambassador Sarafa Ishola, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, met with prominent Yoruba leaders and Ohaneze Ndigbo chieftains to demand equity, fairness, and justice in Nigeria.
The discussion, which took place at the Nigerian High Commission in London on Friday, focused on the challenges of insecurity in Africa’s most populous country and the government’s efforts to address them.
The Igbo leaders at the summit demanded that the country be enthroned in equity, justice, and fairness, with the Igbo being given their rightful place in the Nigeria project.
The Yoruba elders, for their part, stressed the importance of Nigerian unity and stated that the Yoruba people will remain in Nigeria.
They demanded, on the other hand, that power be distributed to the various parts of the federation through reorganization and federalism.
They emphasized the importance of true federalism, as advocated by Obafemi Awolowo, who held the office until his death.
At the summit, Yoruba and Igbo leaders reaffirmed their conviction in Nigeria’s unity and the need to preserve it as a corporate entity.
On Saturday, the minutes of the meetings were emailed to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) in Jos.
Adebayo Oladimeji, a Chartered Biologist and Chairman of Nigerian Elders in the UK, brought the Yoruba leaders to the conference.
His team was directed by Dr. Nnanna Igwe, a medical doctor and the president of the Ohaneze in the United Kingdom.
Both parties emphasized the importance of communication and ongoing involvement on issues that interest all Nigerians, particularly those in the United Kingdom.
