Nigeria may not have won the 2019 AFCON in Egypt, but they certainly won the title on Facebook. The company recently released some stats about discussions around the tournament on the social media platform, and it turns out that Nigeria was the most talked-about.

Well, there’s no denying the level of popularity the Super Eagles‘ kit has given the team since it was unveiled last year. Besides the beloved kit, the stats further reveal that Nigeria generated the most discussions on Facebook about AFCON.

Furthermore, the day that got most people engaged on Facebook was the day of the semi-finals, in which Nigeria played against Algeria. So, putting all this together, it makes perfect sense that Nigeria totally owned the AFCON discussion on Facebook.

Coming to the players, Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez emerged as the most discussed player in the tournament, way ahead of Golden Boot winner, Odion Ighalo, who came in at a slightly surprising number five on the list.
