Three months after winning the interim UFC middleweight belt, Israel Adesanya is getting to take on the UFC middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker. The MMA event, which is being called the biggest fight in Australian history, will unify the two belts and present the ultimate champion to the world.
Although Adesanya has been in the UFC for a while now, the interim middleweight title heralded him as an athlete to watch. Not only has the 29-year-old won all 17 MMA fights he’s been in so far, but – from dancing to making fun of his opponents in the ring – it’s clear he’s enjoyed them all.
While this has endeared him to fans, he still has his work cut out for him when he goes up against Whittaker. The 28-year-old opponent has a record of 20 wins and four losses under his belt. In other words, he’s more experienced than Adesanya.
However, we’re confident that the Nigerian-born New Zealand fighter is packing enough energy folllowing his recent visit to Nigeria. We now look forward to seeing him unleash all of it when the opening bell rings on October 5, the day of the fight.
