The second edition of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) Awards held last night in Lagos, and Ahmed Musa emerged the biggest winner of the night – clinching the ‘Player of the Year’ and ‘Goal of the Season’ awards.

The awards were based on the players’ performances in international games (especially the 2018 World Cup), and although Odion Ighalo and Alex Iwobi pulled their weights at the tournament, Musa beat them to the ‘Player of the Year’ prize.
If you’re wondering why, let’s take your memory back to Russia. Musa earned the respect of Super Eagles fans when he scored two goals against Iceland, becoming the first Nigerian to score at two World Cup competitions.
His second goal was so fantastic that FIFA shortlisted it for the ‘Goal of the Tournament’ award. While he didn’t win the FIFA award, being recognised at the NFF Awards for his triumphant performance is a huge honour for the 26-year-old.
