For well over a year now, Tay Iwar has been brandishing the title “GEMINI” on his Instagram posts, the customary signal from musicians that something special of that name is to come.
A couple of weeks ago, Tay Iwar confirmed that Gemini was set for imminent release; and now — after six fantastic singles and an exclusive Tidal music video — Tay Iwar’s 16-track debut album is out, much to our listening pleasure.
Opening with “Satisfied”, Tay Iwar takes us through the motions of love, narrating his experiences with cruel lovers (“Weather Song”) and his mistakes (“Diamonds”), as well as his feelings of desperation (“Monica”) and his need for a break (“Space”).
Each song on Gemini is carefully crafted and excellently executed, making it difficult to pick clear favourites. That being said, “DON’T KNOW” which features Tay’s equally gifted brother, Sute, definitely soars above the rest.

For the production work, Tay Iwar entrusts Le Mav with “Stranger” and “Keeps” — two beats which stand out on the album. Doozybeatz is also given two tracks, “Diamonds” and “How”, leaving Tay Iwar himself to handle the rest.
With disco leanings, r&b fusions and electronic inspirations, Tay Iwar pulls together an eclectic blend of sonic influences that showcase his unequivocal genius. Gemini is an undeniably fantastic debut by one of Nigeria‘s most exciting musical minds.
