William Troost-Ekong has begged soccer loving Nigerians not to relent in their support for the team.

The Super Eagles held the Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea to a 1-1 draw in their first game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.

Troost-Ekong expressed gratitude to the fans for their support and urged them to rally behind the team ahead of their subsequent games in the competition.

I just want to say thank you for the support for the guys that came out there,” the centre-back said after the game.

” Of course, we’re disappointed; we feel the same way as you guys, we wanted to win today, but I think we have to look at the positives.

“We created a lot of chances, and on another day we would have won that game, and will be very motivated Thursday. Don’t give up on us.”

Troost-Ekong and his teammates will hope for a better result when they confront hosts Cote d’Ivoire at the Alassanne Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan on Thursday.
