The Nasarawa state Commissioner of police, Maiyaki Baba, has been accused of fueling the crisis in the Nasarawa state house of assembly

The CP is accused of taking the side of illegality and encouraging it having this morning personally led 300 troops to the state assembly, providing cover and protection for the 10 factional members to seat and carry out illegal Assembly proceedings in the house.

The speaker Daniel Ogazi, in the company of the 13 members in the house, slammed the allegation on the police chief, saying the CP should be held responsible for any breach of peace in the state since he was openly chosen to aid and abet political crime.

“CP Maiyaki Baba was sent to Nasarawa state to ensure peace and not to fuel crisis or take side in any matter that affect the interest of the entire state”

“We are calling on the Inspector General of police and Mr. President to kindly intervene to ensure a peaceful and healthy living in Nasarawa state.

Recall that the immediate past Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, who was seeking a third term as Speaker, and Hon. Daniel Ogazi, a member representing Kokona East constituency in the Assembly, were both elected as speakers in parallel sittings on Tuesday.

While Balarabe-Abdullahi was elected at a sitting that took place at the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ogazi emerged as Speaker from the proceedings at the State Assembly complex.

Thirteen members-elect, including those from the opposition political parties, were believed to have supported Ogazi, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress, while 11 members were loyal to Balarabe-Abdullahi, who is also a member of the APC in the state.

However, speaking on why police had to seal off the assembly complex, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said in a statement released on Wednesday that the action was due to a directive by the state Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Mohammed-Baba.
