The UAE claims it has supplied 30 tons of essential medical supplies and other humanitarian aid to Ukraine to help people.
According to the UN, over 1.5 million people have fled Ukraine’s borders as a result of air, land, and sea attacks during the past week.
According to Salem A. Al-Kaabi, the UAE’s ambassador to Ukraine, the emirates plane landed in Lublin, Poland, and the medical and relief supplies were handed over to Ukrainian authorities in Poland for transit to Ukraine.
The move was made in response to an international humanitarian appeal to help displaced Ukrainians and refugees in neighboring countries, according to the statement.
The statement added, “Sending an airplane with medical supplies and relief goods is part of the UAE’s continuous commitment to important humanitarian requirements in civilian crises.”
According to the United Nations, the fighting in Ukraine has displaced more than 1.5 million people.
The UAE abstained from a draft UN Security Council resolution denouncing Russia’s invasion last month, but later joined a vote in the UN General Assembly condemning the action.
The affluent Gulf state hosts US troops and has long been a strategic ally of the US, but its economic and political connections with Russia are strengthening.
According to the announcement, the UAE has also contributed 18.36 dirhams ($5 million) to UN refugee appeals.
