The Saturday governorship and house of assembly elections in Ogun State put a seal to the power tussle between the All Progressives Congress, APC, national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
The governorship candidate perceived to be sponsored by Tinubu on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of the Saturday election in the state. The candidate Amosun sponsored was beaten to second position.
The result showed that Abiodun won with 241, 670 votes, to defeat Adekunle Akinlade, governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, sponsored by Amosun, who had 222,153 votes.
The APC candidate won in 11 of the 20 local government areas (LGAs), APM had six LGAs, Action Democratic Congress won in two local governments while the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Buruji Kashamu, won in one LGA.
Prof. Idowu Olayinka, Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan, Oyo State, the INEC Returning Officer for Ogun State announced the results at 1.00am on Monday, with ADC coming third in the election with 110,422. PDP candidate, Buruji Kashamu got 70,290 votes.
