The federal government of Nigeria has provided some updates on the case of a Nigerian lady who was put up for sale by a Lebanese man.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, and senior special assistant on the diaspora to President Muhammadu Buhari gave the update in a tweet on Wednesday evening.
According to her, the Lebanese Government has issued a statement describing the act as illegal, inhuman, with a promise to prosecute the man involved for trafficking.
She added that the Nigerian mission has demanded that the girl be returned in good health to the mission.
“Update on Lebanese who put up a Nigerian girl for sale on FB. The Lebanese Govt today issued a statement describing the act as illegal, inhuman, with a promise to prosecute him for trafficking. Our mission has demanded that the girl be returned in good health to the mission.”
“The passport, which the victim acquired in May 2018, indicated that she hails from Ibadan, Oyo state and an all-out search for the young Nigerian girl is ongoing in Lebanon.”
“As of today Wednesday 22nd, the Lebanese Ministry of Labour has issued a circular condemning the action of Mr. Wael Jerro, as completely unethical, in contravention of Lebanese Laws and against the principles of Human Rights.”
“The circular further stated that legal action will be constituted against him for human trafficking before the competent judicial authority by the Ministry, in line with its statutory responsibility.”
“The Nigerian mission in Lebanon has also demanded for an immediate hand over of the victim to the mission unconditionally and, in good health.”
“NIDCOM will continue to follow up on the matter,” she noted.

It will be recalled as earlier reported by Naija News that the federal government had raised an alarm about the Lebanese man, after he offered to sell a Nigerian woman for $1,000.
He had written on Facebook: “Domestic worker from Nigeria for sale with new legal documents. She’s 30 years old, she’s very active and very clean. Price: $1000
Following the post, the Nigerian mission in Lebanon reported to the host authorities who launched a manhunt for the man. The suspect is identified as Mr. Wael Jerro and according to his profile on Facebook, studied at Arab Open University and lives in the capital, Beirut.
