COVID-19:  World winning battle as over 139,000 victims recover (see full list)

The battle against the dreaded Coronavirus is gradually taken shape following concerted effort by global leaders to contain the spread as over 139, 555 have fully recovered from the virus across the globe.

After first appearing in Wuhan, China, last December, the novel coronavirus has spread to at least 175 countries and territories, according to data compiled by the U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.

According to statistics obtained from Worldometer, total case across the globe as at March, 28, stands at 650,926 while the number of deaths is put at 30,299 in the world, while new cases are gradually declining.

The United States leads the pack with a total of 116,448 cases, 12,322 new cases, total deaths of 1,943 and a total of 3,224 victims have fully recovered.

The US is closely followed by Italy which has a total case of 92,472, new cases of 5,974, total death of 10,023 and 12,384 victims totally recovered.

Meanwhile, China where the virus originated had 81,394 cases, 54 new cases, 3,295 deaths and 74, 971 have fully recovered.

In Africa, South Africa leads with the number of cases at 1,187, just two deaths and 31 recovered victims, followed by Egypt with 576 cases, 36 deaths and 121 victims recovered from the virus.

Nigeria, which is among the least infected countries in Africa as at Saturday had 89 cases, one recorded death and three victims have recorded, according to the Nigerian Centre for Disease and Control (NCDC).

Lagos continues to be what could be termed as the heartbeat of the coronavirus in Nigeria. Out of all the cases announced by the National Center for Disease Control, Lagos had close to 60.

Meanwhile, Vir Biotechnology, a San Francisco-based biotechnology firm, said that laboratory testing showed two of its antibody drugs appeared to neutralize the coronavirus that causes Covid-19 and that it would pursue testing them in people.

The company said that human tests of the drugs could begin in three to five months, putting it roughly in line with two other efforts to produce anti-coronavirus antibodies.

Regeneron, based in Tarrytown, N.Y., has said that its antibodies could enter trials by early summer — and that its treatment, if it proves effective, could be available for some uses in the fall. Eli Lilly, which is developing anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies with AbCellera, a Vancouver biotech, has said it hopes to begin human tests in four months.
