While his peers in the game, the likes of Teni, Davido, and Odunsi (The Engine), used the start of the year to kick off their international tours, Wizkid followed up the end of Lagos‘ hectic Christmas season with a much-needed hiatus from music.
Announcing on Twitter that he’d be gone until March, Wizkid has now welcomed the month with a slight hint at a forthcoming musical comeback.

As February drew to a close, Wizkid fans swarmed Twitter with the hashtag, #ReturnOfStarboy — keen for new music to accompany the new month — and it looks like he is about to deliver, following the surprisingly long three-month wait.
Although he left us a little disappointed when we didn’t wake up to a new Wizkid single on the first of March, Starboy is back talking music, teasing an imminent return with the titilating caption to his latest Instagram post:
“Same president ! New Music ?”
Before his hiatus, Wizkid was on a roll: He pulled out an incredible performance on the Global Citizen EP; scored two features on Metro Boomin’s Not All Heroes Wear Capes; and he broke the internet with his “best friend”, Tiwa Savage, in the headline-grabbing video for “Fever”.
So, although the ever-elusive artist didn’t divulge much information regarding his new music, we do hope the #ReturnOfStarboy comes sooner, rather than later, and that he picks up from the incredible spot he left off.
In the meantime, we’ll be reliving the epic TiWiz moment that was “Fever”:
