At Konbini Nigeria we love discovering and sharing great music with each other (and jamming to our newfound favorites all day long).
But instead of just selfishly sharing these songs amongst ourselves alone, we’ve decided to create a list of all the newly released albums and EPs that have caught our attention, stolen our hearts and are constantly on repeat on our devices.
Last month, we highlighted some great albums and EPs — from Show Dem Camp’s These Buhari Times to D-Truce’s 2 Birds, 1 Stone. Now, we are back to celebrate some February 2019 projects we think you’ll love as much as we do.
thank u, next by Ariana Grande
Following a year filled with career highs and personal lows, Ariana Grande confidently unveiled her second album in six months, thank u, next — an achingly personal and immensely entertaining body of work that will surely go down as one of the year’s best releases.
Standout Tracks: “ghostin”, “fake smile” and “in my head”.
Father Of 4 by Offset
While not nearly as thoughtful as Takeoff’s The Last Rocket, Offset’s confident debut album, Father of 4 soars well above Quavo’s vapid Quavo Huncho, proving the second most talented Migos rapper has a relatively bright future outside of the Grammy-nominated group.
Standout Tracks: “How Did I Get Here”, “Legacy” and “Red Room”.
Big Bad by Giggs
At 18 tracks long, Giggs’ fifth studio album ran the risk of feeling a bit bloated and annoyingly self-indulgent, but thanks to a stellar crop of guest acts and the British rapper’s unique, infectious flow, Big Bad ends up being one of his most enjoyable projects to date.
Standout Tracks: “Mic Check”, “Terminator” and “Baby”.
Chulo Vibes by Timaya
On Chulo Vibes, Timaya’s first body of work in half a decade, the revered dancehall star delivers a project that’s stacked with effortlessly breezy bangers, and while it might not rank as a career-high, it proves he is still one of the most capable hitmakers in the game.
Standout Tracks: “Balance”, “Pull Up” and “Akuna”.
Afrobeats LOL by Fokn Bois
Controversial Ghanaian duo, Fokn Bois are back with their signature brand of hilarious yet insightful bops on their latest project, Afrobeats LOL — a wholly engaging body of work that, as the name implies, cleverly satirises the beloved genre.
Standout Tracks: “Won Nim MI”, “Brukutu” and “Account Balance”.
Afro Bongo by Harmonize
On Afro Bongo, Harmonize’s impressive 4-track EP, the Tanzanian hitmaker enlists some of the continent’s biggest stars — Diamond Platnumz, Burna Boy, Mr Eazi, Yemi Alade — proving that he can play with the very best of them and still shine.
Standout Tracks: The entire thing.
