A ministerial nominee in President Muhammadu Buhari’s list to the Senate, Festus Keyamo, was confronted with a simplistic but difficult reference that genuinely tested his patriotism to the Nigeria state by a senator during screening on Friday. Noticing the trappings of the patriotism test, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, intervened to nullify the senator’s challenge to Keyamo which the nominee didn’t have solution.
Keyamo at the ministerial screening last Friday was rattled by Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, when the Senator requested the ministerial nominee to recite the second stanza of the National anthem.
“I know you to be intellectually mobile, I want you to recite the national anthem,” Melaye had challenged Keyamo.
Senate President Ahmad Lawan noticing Keyamo’s instability in handling the challenge quickly intervened and annulled Melaye’s challenge, noting that it is not a question. That was how Keyamo escaped disqualification from confirmation of the senate as he did have answer to the Melaye challenge.
