As the biggest afropop star right now, it’s pretty hard for a Wizkid song or feature to go unnoticed, but there was a time that a solid Wizkid performance could actually fly under the radar. One that we recently discovered is his work on Phenom‘s 2013 track, “The Way”.
Produced by TMXO, “The Way” is a catchy track that opens with Phenom professing his feelings for a special girl, begging her not to use him or form for him. Over the infectious chorus, Phenom shouts dance instructions, encouraging her to move her body the way he likes.
Wizkid, a veritable scene-stealer even back then, makes a very smooth entrance on the song’s second verse, asking the woman he loves to look after him and never leave him. Starboy takes his verse exclusively in Yoruba, an effort we rarely get to hear these days.
