Thanks to fantastic releases like Burna Boy’s Outside, Adekunle Gold’s About 30 and Odunsi The Engine’s rare., we came to the conclusion that 2018 was a truly great year for Nigerian music. While 2019 hasn’t been quite as impressive, we still have the next six months to look forward to.
Throughout the year, we’ve had some solid projects from a few of our faves — from Simi’s Omo Charlie Champagne to Runtown’s Tradition — but we’re still expecting that truly great release, and we’re holding out hope for the likes of Davido, Wizkid and Teni to come through.
Earlier on in the year, Davido announced his month-long hiatus from social media to focus on completing his long-awaited sophomore album; while Wizkid has been teasing fans with the release of Made In Lagos, which will likely feature Damien Marley and Drake.
It’s certainly easy to focus on Davido and Wizkid, two of afropop’s biggest stars, and hope that they both come through with game-changing albums that define 2019, but we’ve decided to share the love (and expectation), compiling a list of artists, all set to drop a project this year, that we as much faith in.
So, here are the 8 projects we are excited for in the second half of 2019:
