Best You Never Heard: Burna Boy Shines On Peruzzi’s ‘Champion Lover’

Last year, Peruzzi caught our attention with his fantastic guest work on a bunch of our fave songs, such as 2Baba’s “Amaka” and a bunch of DMW singles. 

He closed out his great year with his first ever body of work, Heartwork, which unfortunately didn’t get as much traction as it deserved. That made some of the project’s standout tracks, particularly the Burna Boy-assisted “Champion Lover”, fly under the radar. 

2018 was a definitive year for Burna Boy and Peruzzi — making their collaboration a no-brainer. The fantastic “Champion Lover” is the perfect embodiment of the project’s theme, as it solidly tackles love and heartbreak.

Against a mellow yet catchy beat, Peruzzi and Burna Boy confess their love, while also announcing all of the benefits that come with dating them. They beg for their prospective lover’s attention, singing that they want to be her champion lover.

Just like Burna Boy, Peruzzi’s ability to evoke emotion, while still giving us party bops, sets him apart from his counterparts, and makes his future in the industry an exciting one. We only wish he pushed the EP, which shows off his talents, a bit more.
