NECO denies fixing exams on Sallah Day

THE National Examinations Council (NECO) has debunked reports that it fixed exams on Saturday, July 9, 2022, the day Muslim faithful will celebrate Eid-el Kabir, otherwise known as Sallah Day.

The Council said rather than fix exams on the day, it made provisions for an examination-free week, beginning from Friday, July 8, to Wednesday, July 13, 2022, to enable the Muslim faithful to have enough time to celebrate the annual festival.

NECO is currently conducting the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for school-based candidates.

The examination began on June 27 and will end on August 12.

Head Information and Public Relations Division, Azeez Sani, said in a statement released on Monday that NECO did not fix any paper on the Sallah Day in order to honour Muslims.

The statement reads: “The National Examinations Council (NECO) wishes to state that it has not scheduled any examination for Saturday, July 9, 2022.

“This is contrary to insinuations in some quarters that the council has scheduled examination for July 9, 2022, which is Sallah Day (Eid- Adha).

“Conscious of the importance of religious festivals, the Council has always made adequate provision for such in fixing examination dates.”
