The man, whose name was given as Sani Mamuda, also known as Shadari and who was said to be 45 years old, was paraded by the state police command after he was arrested following a tip-off over his activities as a supplier of weapons to bandits and robbers.
It was gathered that Mamuda, who is from Zamfara State and who was also said to be known for theft, kidnapping and other terrorism activities, was arrested after the police got information about plans by him to transport some arms and ammunition to bandits in a forest in Katsina State.
Katsina State has been in the news for some time over incessant activities of bandits, while the state governor, Aminu Bello Misari, had raised the alarm about the activities of bandits and how they are being supplied arms and ammunition to attack residents of various communities in the state.
According to reports, when the police spread their dragnets after getting information about the activities of Mamuda, they succeeded in arresting him and during his arrest, an AK-47 rifle and an AK-49 rifle were recovered from him alongside 42 bullets, an undisclosed sum of money and a motorcycle which he used to ride to the forest to meet the bandits.
According to a statement shortly after the parade of the man at the state police headquarters issued by the Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Gambo Isah, and posted on his Facebook wall, when the man was interrogated, he was said to have disclosed that he used to buy the weapons and bullets from a man whose name he gave as Dan Borno.
The police statement said the man had given useful information to the police while more investigations will continue after which he will be prosecuted in the court of law at the completion of the investigations.
