President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday suspended the controversial RUGA settlement program in response to overarching public outcry and protest from several parts of the country. The president has since the announcement of the RUGA settlement policy suffered monumental unpopularity from Nigerians across board, both partisan and non-partisan citizens, which demonstrated the inherent thereat of the RUGA settlement policy and the sensitivity it generated.
The Presidency had explained that the Ruga Settlement Projects was an idea introduced to contain or end the perennial herdsmen/farmers clashes across the country. National Daily learned that the controversies it generated compelled President Buhari to suspend the policy till further notice, pending consultations with stakeholders.
