Currently residing in South London but born in Lagos, Moelogo has been one of the key figures in cultivating the afopop sound in the UK.
As such, Moelogo collaborates with an assortment of different artists, from Adekunle Gold to Giggs, but when it comes to his projects, he prefers to go solo. He did so with his impressive debut EP, Ireti, and he does it again on his sophomore project, Magic.
An undeniably inspiring EP, Moelogo uses the tape to encourage us to work hard and strive for greatness. From reminding listeners that God is in control, to scolding those who refuse to hustle, Moelogo’s message is crystal clear: Never give up and you will succeed.
The EP is filled with solid production work, particularly from Spax, who lays down a spritely beat for the encouraging opening track, “God’s Work”. Bayo Muzik’s work on “Grateful” also shines, as it contrasts the project’s uptempo opener with a more wistful and emotive vibe.
Moelogo does a phenomenal job with Magic — a serene body of work that showcases his talents as a musician, as well as his ability to soar unaided (something not a lot of Nigerian artists can do). The project could easily and deservedly win the rising star a ton of new fans.
