Since his breakout a few years ago, Mayorkun has been executing his responsibility as one of afropop’s most captivating artists, lending his star power to lesser-known acts, such as Flowolf, Busta Pop and, now, the gifted producer-singer, Chillz on his new song, “Grateful”.

“Grateful” is a mellow bop with a chirpy beat that makes use of exciting percussive instruments, complementing the bright tone of the song. The beat is incredibly fitting for Chillz’s lyrics, which see him giving thanks to God for his undying love and the gift of life.

Mayorkun reiterates Chillz’s message of gratitude, although his lyrics are markedly less nuanced. Still, Mayorkun’s vocal performance is impressive as always, adding a softer tone to Chillz’s deep and raspy singing voice.

Directed by Saikzvision, the video for “Grateful” simply depicts Chillz going about his daily business — from recording a song to visiting a shopping mall — amidst flicks of him and Mayorkun performing their commendable song through a static TV screen.
