Last week, Jamaican singer, Koffee hosted her first show in the UK, where she tipped her hat to her upcoming collaborator, Burna Boy, performing his 2018 monster hit, “Ye”.
Unfortunately for those who weren’t in attendance, we were only able to see snippets of Koffee’s delectable rendition through the turbulent lens of a phone camera. Thankfully, she’s appeared on BBC Radio 1xtra to deliver her cover for “Ye” in full, and it’s brilliant.
During her live show, we commended the band, The Compozers for adding vibrancy to the track. For this performance, The Compozers showed out again, emphasising the most dynamic parts of the song, making Koffee’s “Ye” cover even more energetic than the original.
Koffee’s voice on the cover is lively and powerful, doing justice to Burna’s lyrics. Her Jamaican accent is also very well placed on the song, given Burna’s patois leanings. We’d love to see her and Burna Boy perform this song together sometime. That’s not asking for too much, right?
