At the Seme border in Lagos State, a Nigerian soldier is said to have shot and killed a Customs official.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, according to reports.
According to an eyewitness who talked with the Daily Trust, the incident heightened anxiety in the area due to fears of a border fight between military and customs inspectors.
The soldier was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, according to a source who asked not to be identified.
“It’s possible that the soldier was under the influence of alcohol because no one expected him to behave in such a strange manner.”
Seme is a Nigerian town that shares a border with Cotonou, the Benin Republic’s capital.
