The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday evening met with a former military Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.).

The meeting was said to have been held behind closed doors at the official residence of the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

It later became a public knowledge on Friday when Presidency officials shared pictures of the two leaders online.

Efforts made by our correspondent to get the agenda of the meeting of the two leaders have yet to yield positive results as of the time of filing this report.

The Presidency also has yet to issue a statement on the meeting as of press time.

It is however not unusual for former leaders to consult with the President from time to time on national issues.

Apart from such one-to-one meetings, former Nigerian leaders and the President also meet on the platform of the Council of State which also has the President of the Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives, living former Chief Justices of Nigeria and state governors as members.

Niger State, where Abdusalami hails from, has been in the news lately as a result of the activities of bandits who have been targeting schools to abduct pupils.

Meanwhile, the President on Friday also met with the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Buba Marwa, at the Presidential Villa.

Marwa did not brief journalists at the end of the meeting believed to have centred on the activities of the NDLEA.
