Lupita Nyong’o has been dutifully promoting her upcoming film, Jordan Peele’s Us, which critics are calling a “terrifying, witty and incredibly pertinent psychological horror-thriller”. But the question on all our minds is: When are we getting the Americanah miniseries?
In 2014, Lupita acquired the film rights to Chimamanda’s acclaimed novel, Americanah, and since then we have been anticipating the adaptation. We initially thought it was going to be made into a movie, but it was later confirmed that we’d be getting a miniseries instead.
Speaking with Vogue, Lupita has now said we will not have to wait long for the series:
“My dream project is finally getting to make Americanah [a 2013 novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie], which is looking very, very likely.
It’s going to happen in the near future and it’s been a long time in the making and I’m very, very ripe and ready to get into that for sure.
Finally! Let’s not forget that Lupita will both star in and co-produce the series, and Tony-nominated playwright and Black Panther star, Danai Gurira, is already working on writing the screenplay, for which she and Lupita visited Lagos last year for research.
