Mahadi Hassan, an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been reportedly kidnapped in Jigawa state.
John Kaiwa, the head of department of voter education and publicity in the state confirmed the kidnapping on Tuesday, March 19.
Kaiwa revealed that the INEC official who was kidnapped on Giwa Road in Jigawa has been missing since Friday, March 15. The police authorities in the state have also confirmed that the incident happened.
The police, however, said that the electoral commission or any member of the Hassan’s family, filed a formal complaint.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr Mahmoud Isah said that the gunmen have contacted the family of Hassan, demanding that a ransom before he can be released.
