The Nigerian Football Federation first vice chairman Seyi Akinwunmi on Thursday led thousands of friends, family members, colleagues, and well-wishers to pay last respect to late Taiwo Ogunjobi who
passed on last month reports Completesports.com.
At a well attended lying in state and funeral service held at the Lekan Salami stadium in Ibadan Oyo State, tributes, eulogies, and tears poured in freely for Ogunjobi, who until his demise was the Osun State
Football Association Chairman.
Ogunjobi passed on the 11th of February after a brief illness at the University Teaching Hospital Ibadan.
Akinwunmi, while expressing sadness over the death of the former NFF Secretary-General said attending the funeral was just one of a means to pay respect to the legendary administrator.
“This is an avenue to honour him because he has done so well for football in the south well and Nigeria as a whole,” Akinwunmi said.
In a special tribute in memory of the former NFF Secretary General, Samson Siasia who managed the Super under his reign as NFF Secretary-General described the former Shooting Stars Sports Club as a boss
and a legend.
“I had to make it here because he was my boss and a legend of Nigerian Football,” Siasia told Completesports.com.
Top sports dignitaries who attended the lying in State of the late Ogunjobi include former NFF President Alhaji Sani Lulu, Amanze Uchegbulam, Bolaji Ojo-Oba, Gbolagade Busari, Chairman Shootings Stars
Sports Club, Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, Austin Eguavoen, Godwin Okpara, Dele Adeleke amongst others.
Also, two novelty matches were played in honour of Ogunjobi.
Friends United by Sports (FUBS) lost 2-1 to the Oyo State All-Stars. In the other game, Lagos State All-Star team played out a goalless draw with a selected side comprising of ex-Shooting Stars players and Osun United footballers.
Ogunjobi’s burial will hold on Friday at a private ceremony.
