Rivers Hoopers forward Buchi Nwaiwu has been invited to Nigeria’s men’s senior national basketball team, D’Tigers ahead of the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Abidjan from February 22 to 24, reports Completesports.com.

Nwaiwu earned a place in Alex Nwora’s side following his outstanding performance at the FIBA Africa Zone 3 Qualifiers in December where he was voted the most valuable player and also named in the top 5 of the Zone 3 Qualifiers in Cotonou.

He admits his hard work and performance in Cotonou earned him the call-up.

“I feel very happy, honoured and overwhelmed by the news,” Nwaiwu told Rivers Hoopers media.

“I have longed for a call up to the national team. I am really happy this is happening to me right now. It’s a big achievement because I wasn’t expecting it to happen this quick.”

“I think I earned this call up as a result of my performance at the Zone 3 Qualifiers in Cotonou last year where I won the MVP and finished in the top 5.”

D’Tigers currently on a nine-game winning streak in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 qualifiers will face Senegal, Cote d’ Ivoire and Central African Republic in the bid to go unbeaten in the qualifiers.
