Ibrahim Alhassan has joined Portuguese topflight club Boavista FC on a two-year contract which will run till the 2025/2026 season.

Boavista announced the signing in a statement on their website on Thursday.

Alhassan, who joined the club from Belgian second division champions Beerschot, is Boavista first signing for the new campaign.

It is a return to Portugal for Alhassan having also featured for CD Nacional between 2018 and 2022.

“I am very happy. Signing for Boavista was an easy decision, firstly because I know how great the club is and also because I have already played in Portugal, which I consider to be my second home,” the 27-year-old said.

“I am very excited about this challenge and I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and start this adventure.

“I usually play as a defensive midfielder, but last season I often played in central defence. I am a team player and I am always available to help my teammates, whatever the position.”

He spoke on his experience playing inside the Bessa Stadium, home ground of Boavista, during his time at Nacional.

“The atmosphere was spectacular and the fans are always supporting, making it difficult for the opponents. Fortunately, now I’m on this side, it will be easier to play at Bessa.”

On being teammates with the duo of Bruno Onyemaechi and Vhidozie Awaziem:“I know Bruno [Onyemaechi] and Chidozie personally. I played with Chidozie when I was in the Nigerian national team and I had already faced Bruno when he was still at Feirense.

“I also shared the dressing room with Filipe Ferreira at Nacional and I remember playing against Ibrahima Camara. This connection with my teammates could be important for me to adapt more easily.”

A former player or Wikki Tourists and Akwa United, Alhassan featured for the Golden Eaglets and the Flying Eagles.

He was a member of the Flying Eagles squad that won the U-20 AFCON in Senegal.
