CAR’s Wild Beasts have given the country’s President, Faustin-Archange Touadera, some credit for their famous away win over Nigeria’s Super Eagles in a 2022 FIFA World Cup African qualifying Group C match at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos on Thursday, Completesports.com reports.
The CAR players and officials were pictured celebrating inside their locker-room at the stadium after defying their current lowly 124th FIFA rank to pip 34th-ranked Nigeria in front of Lagos fans.
A congratulatory message was posted on the CAR national team’s Facebook page on Thursday night after Raoul Savoy’s Wild Beasts produced a resilient performance to subdue Gernot Rohr’s Super Eagles.
“The Central African people congratulate the Wild Beasts for the national colours by beating Nigeria in her home,” the messag reads.
“Congratulations and thanks to His Excellency, President Faustin-Archange Touadera, and the government of for attention being given to sports. Go Wild Beasts!.”

Wild Beasts’ striker, Karl Namnganda, who came off the bench in the 55th minute replacing Stephane Grengou, scored the solitary match winner in the 91st minute.
Namnganda who plays his club football for French 4th division side, Herbiers VF, also took to his Instagram page to further celebrate his first ever goal for the Wild Beasts.
“Big game against the @ngsupereagles, first goal in the national team,” Namnganda wrote and posted on Instagram with a photo showing the Wild Beasts’ victory celebration inside their dressingroom.
With the away win against Nigeria, CAR have bolstered their chances of qualifying for the final round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. They are on four points, as Cape Verde, going into this weekend’s fourth round of games in Group C – only two points behind leaders, Nigeria who are on six points. Liberia, on three points, bring up the rear.
The Will Beasts will host the Super Eagles at their makeshift home ground, Stade omnisport de Douala Douala Cameroon, on Sunday, October 10 2021. Cape Verde will clash with Liberia in Mindelo, also on Sunday.
