Premier League champions, Manchester City, host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday with the Citizens boss, Pep Guardiola, sparing some thoughts for his opponent – his former Assistant, Mikel Arteta, who is under pressure following The Gunners’ poor start to the 2021/2022 campaign.
Manchester City have won two and lost one going into the matchday-3, while Arsenal lost their first two games of the season. Guardiola is sympathetic with Arteta as he gets set to lead out his army, looking for an outright win against Arsenal that would further condemn his former understudy to the critics’ harsh sticks. .
“Two games. We have played two games, not 20 or 50,” Guadiola said during his prematch press conference on Friday.
“Sometimes I think managers are crazy to do the job. They trust Mikel a lot because they spend money to reinforce the team.”
Guardiola added: “It’s just two games. Give more time to build what they want to build. People want success immediately, you need time.
“It doesn’t matter what happens – it is an opinion we have here and everyone knows what we think about him.”
Meanwhile, Man City duo of Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden are not available for Arsenal clash due to the injuries, sustained while representing Belgium and England respectively at the Euro 2020.
Guardiola said of Bruyne’s injury situation: “He is getting better, but still is not fit.”
