The Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Umana Okon Umana, has pushed for the improvement of budgetary processes of the Ministry for better performance.
Mr. Umana, who featured as a Guest in ‘Politics Nationwide,’ a Radio Nigeria Audience Participatory Programme, proposed a reduction of projects in the Ministry’s Budget in order to concentrate resources approved on a fewer project of high impact.
“I believe clearly that there is room for improvement and if we even look at the budgetary processes, I believe we could have done better. You know, sometimes when budget requests go to the National Assembly, we end up having too many projects and the resources are spread too thinly. So, we could have done better in terms of prioritization and allocation of resources,” he maintained.
The Honourable Minister further stressed the need for the Ministry to partner stakeholders and State Governments in the execution of projects in other to check duplication of projects, among others.
While admitting that the Ministry did not perform well in the area of partnership, the Honourable Minister vowed to improve in that area.
“I also think there is need to strengthen our collaboration and partnership with other stakeholders and with state governments in the region. The Ministry will really improve on this area,” he added.
