Yesterday was the last day of the 2019 Africa Under-23 Cup of Nations qualifiers, and Nigeria ended on a high note, beating Sudan 5-0. Not only did the team become the first African country to qualify for this year’s tournament, but they now have a clear shot at the 2020 Olympics.

Nigeria was assured the ticket after Ndifreke Effiong scored two goals, and Taiwo Awoniyi, Sunday Faleye and Sunusi Ibrahim followed with one each. Given that Sudan beat Nigeria 1-0 in the first leg, it means the game ended with a 5-1 aggregate win for the Dream Team.

Nigeria will now make their way to Egypt, where the tournament is set to kick off on November 8. As the 2015 champions and winners of the 1996 Olympics, all eyes will be on the Dream Team to defend their title and clinch a spot in the upcoming Olympics.
