A month ago, we reported that Michael Essien will play for Chelsea Legends in an upcoming charity match against Real Madrid Legends. With a few weeks to go before matchday, reports have emerged that Chelsea will feature Nigerian legend, Celestine Babayaro in the same game.
In his active football days, Babayaro spent eight years playing for Chelsea – the longest he ever spent in a Premier League club. In 132 appearances, the Nigerian scored a total of five goals, playing as a defender and, sometimes, as a midfielder.
According to Chelsea website, Babayaro was invited for the game alongside 23 other former players from the club. Given that Babayaro excelled more as a defender, he will be positioned in the left-back during the charity match.
We look forward to seeing the 40-year-old icon back in action on June 23.
