Coronavirus
Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, has revealed that the state had two suspected cases of COVID-19 also known as coronavirus on Tuesday.
He revealed that the test result showed that the suspected cases are negative.
Coker said this while leading the World Health Organisation, Africa Regional Office and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control team on a working visit to Governor Dapo Abiodun in Abeokuta.
The visit was said to be in connection with the index coronavirus case traced to an Italian man who worked as a consultant to a company in the state.
She said, “We have had two cases over the weekend that have proved negative, and we have also had to investigate more in the last 48 hours but they turned out not to be cases.”
The commissioner said the WHO and the NCDC had supported the state with the provision and distribution of gloves, sanitisers and others.
The leader of the team, Prof. Bola Olayinka, commended the state government’s response to the index coronavirus case.
Abiodun said, “We don’t have an airport but we’re the closest to the biggest airport in Nigeria. We are actually the industrial capital of Nigeria and this suggests or pre-supposes that we must have a large community of expatriates.
“This, however, is becoming worrisome, hence the need to step up the advocacy to curtail further spread of coronavirus.”
