Two months ago, Davido‘s “Fall” made history as the first-ever African music video to reach 100 million views on YouTube. As the popularity of the 2017 release continues to rise, especially overseas, the hit continues to set major records.
This week, it has been hailed as the longest-charting Nigerian single in the history of the Billboard charts — a platform which tabulates the relative weekly popularity of songs and albums in the United States and elsewhere.
Late last year, over a year after its release, “Fall” made its debut on the Billboard charts. The single has now been charted on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay charts for four weeks in a row, reaching its peak position this week at 29 — 10 places up from last week.
With his feature on Cassanova’s “2AM” and “Fall” resting comfortably on the top 100 most Shazamed songs, where he is currently the only Nigerian artist, Davido’s assertion that he has “the biggest [African] in America right now” is now certainly indisputable.
As plays for “Fall” continue to rise, it is safe to say that Davido will enjoy an even longer streak on the American chart, setting the mark higher and higher. In their cover story last year, The Native suggested that Davido was his only competition, and it’s clear that they were right.
