A few days ago, we reported that Anthony Joshua said his fight with Deontay Wilder could happen this December. It seems that prediction will be confirmed anytime soon, as Wilder has declared he’s very much interested in fighting Joshua before taking on Tyson Fury.
In case you haven’t been following, let’s clear it up: Joshua needs to beat Wilder to become the undisputed heavyweight champion, but then a planned rematch between Wilder and Fury has been in the way of that since late last year.
Now, the World Boxing Council (WBC) has mandated Wilder to fight Dominic Breazeale before the rematch with Fury. While the mandatory fight is causing controversy right now, Wilder is down to skip his rematch with Fury and meet Joshua head-on, following his fight with Breazeale on May 18.
Speaking to Blue Blood Sports TV, he said:
“I want Joshua, of course. I want to unify the belts. I’mma knock his ass out, that’s for sure. I promise you.”
Honestly, we’re already drowning with anticipation, and why shouldn’t we? It’s been almost 20 years since the reign of the last undisputed heavyweight boxing champion. So, it goes without saying that the world needs a new one.
Seeing that Joshua is on a raging campaign to fill that space gives us so much joy. Now that he and Wilder are on the same page, we just have to wait for things to play out, and we really hope that fight happens soon.
