Fury’s Promoter Warren Rubbishes Joshua, Wilder Talks

Tyson Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has dismissed claims that Anthony Joshua could be set for a fight with Deontay Wilder later this year.

On the topic of Wilder’s huge upcoming clash with Fury, Joshua recently suggested he would want to take on the winner before the end of the year, saying: “We had a meeting about that. It has great potential. I heard (Wilder and Fury) have a third fight lined up towards the end of the year but we have to throw a curveball in there.”

Warren, however, has poured cold water on the claims by insisting that all three heavyweights involved already have their 2020 calendars sorted.

Writing in Metro, Warren said: “I can categorically say Anthony Joshua didn’t meet with any of Deontay Wilder’s team. It’s just all rubbish. The bottom line is, they can have 10,000 meetings, but all three fighters are already under contract.

” Tyson Fury, Wilder, Joshua- they all have their 2020 mapped out. Joshua has two mandatories or he vacates a title. Tyson and Wilder fight on 22 February and the loser has the right to invoke a trilogy fight. That’s in their contracts.

“Can things change? Of course, but it’ll be expensive to do that. And I mean really expensive. Whatever this fight makes, Joshua will have to match it to get the loser to step aside. That will be millions upon millions of pounds.”

Joshua’s next fight is likely to take place at the end of May or the beginning of June, and will be against either Oleksandr Usyk or Kubrat Pulev.

As well as his desire to fight Wilder, Joshua has also spoken of his dream of taking on Fury at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, describing the prospect of a homecoming fight as ‘phenomenal’.
