Imoh Umoren is one of the most exciting Nigerian filmmakers working today, and his eclectic filmography is a major testament to that. His last film, Children Of Mud fully announced him as a talent to watch, and now he’s released the trailer for his follow-up, Dear Bayo.
Umoren is known for gracefully tackling poignant issues with his films. The AMVCA-nominated Children Of Mud was dedicated to homeless kids, who were made outcasts by their parents; and Questions was a satirical short film that focused on the stupidity of victim blaming.
Dear Bayo follows a youth corper named Bayo and a girl from his neighbourhood, Ebipade, who is raised by abusive parents. Upon meeting, they quickly become smitten by each other, however, they have to overcome the difficulties in their respective lives before they can be together.
From the stunning trailer, we can see that in usual Imoh Umoren fashion, the film will tackle social issues and we’re very excited to see how it plays out. While there is no information about the film’s release date, we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for it.
