Mikel Arteta has opened up about Arsenal’s link to Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori.

The Bologna defender has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer.

Bologna are heading off for their pre-season camp in Valles, Spain and have listed the players they are taking with them with Calafiori not one of them.

The Gunners have reportedly agreed to a €45 million deal with Bologna for Calafiori, outbidding several European giants including Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, and Atletico Madrid.

When the Arsenal boss was asked about Calafiore, at the press after his side trained in Los Angeles as part of their pre-season preparations, he said:”No unfortunately not but obviously we know there are certain positions that we want to improve and give the squad better resources in terms of numbers where we are short but we will try our best but the main thing is to focus on falling in love with the players we have and make them better.

Also he was asked on the injury to Takehiro Tomiyasu.

“It is unbelievable, because the kid works so hard and he had an incident in training and we don’t know yet the extent of that injury but for precaution we kept him there and we’ll see what happens. (It happened) this week.”
