Team USA’s power forward, LeBron James, rescued his team from Germany’s pressure, scoring 11 consecutive points in the final minutes to secure a 92-88 victory in their last pre-Olympics game.
The closely contested game, played on Monday, July 21, ended with a score of 92-88 (29-19, 19-22, 23-27, 21-20) in favor of the US.
Before the end of the fourth quarter, Team USA was trailing by one point with four minutes remaining. However, James scored 11 consecutive points, including a three-pointer that put the US ahead by four (90-86).
According to Basketnews, Germany started strong in the first quarter, gaining an early lead of 13-8. However, Team USA responded, ending the first quarter with a score of 29-19.
Germany dominated the second half but was initially trailing by nine points (41-49). They went on a 12-2 run to regain the lead, 53-52.
James led all players in scoring with 20 points, along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Joel Embiid contributed 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists, achieving a game-leading 29 EFF on 5-for-8 shooting.
