The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the recovery of N30 billion, along with the initiation of investigations into 50 bank accounts associated with the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, and the former CEO of the now-suspended National Social Investment Programme Authority (NSIPA), Halima Shehu.
Kanyi Daily News earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu suspended both Edu and Shehu three months ago, citing alleged financial malpractice, and subsequently handed the case over to the EFCC for investigation.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede provided an update on the ongoing investigation, urging patience from the public in the March edition of EFCC Alert.
“We have laws and regulations guiding our investigations. Nigerians will also know that they are already on suspension, based on the investigations we have conducted, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated his commitment to fighting corruption.
“Furthermore, regarding this particular case, we have recovered over N30 billion, which has been returned to the Federal Government. Investigations take time to conclude; we began less than six weeks ago. Some cases take years to investigate due to their complexity,” he continued.
“We are currently scrutinizing over 50 bank accounts where we have traced funds. This is a significant undertaking. Additionally, we have thousands of other cases in progress. Nigerians have witnessed the impact of our actions, including suspensions and recoveries,” Olukoyede emphasized.
“We are uncovering various leads in our investigation. While some may be eager to see individuals prosecuted, it’s important to follow due process. I urge Nigerians to be patient and trust in the process,” he concluded.
