Betta Edu: Atiku’s Camp Reacts After Tinubu’s Recent Action, Hits Buhari

The camp of the former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has reacted involving Betta Edu.

Daniel Bwala, a media aide to the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, pointed out a distinction between President Bola Tinubu and his predecessor, ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

Bwala acknowledged that Tinubu, unlike Buhari, seems unwilling to defend his appointees embroiled in fraudulent activities. Posting on X, he praised Tinubu for taking decisive action in suspending the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Edu, over alleged financial fraud.

Leaked documents revealed that Edu instructed the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to transfer N585.18 million into a private account belonging to Oniyelu Bridget, who supposedly serves as the Project Accountant for Grants for Vulnerable Groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Lagos, and Ogun states.

However, the Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein, rejected Edu’s directive and refused to disburse the sum. In response to the scandal, Tinubu suspended the minister and directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a thorough investigation.

Bwala’s X post read: “Again @officialABAT is showing that when there is a credible substance in an allegation he will act in public interest. He has suspended the beauty pageant minister. Give it to him.

“What has clearly distinguished @officialABAT from his predecessor @MBuhari is that President Tinubu does not look like one prepared to defend appointee caught with his/her hands in the cookie’s jar (at least for now).

“But if anyone thinks this alleged corruption only exists in the Humanitarian Ministry, that person is clearly a comedian.

“There appears to be a determination cooked with a sense of urgency by some corrupt appointees to pounce on our commonwealth like a bulldog that has found the last borne on the planet earth. This is a national security threat.”
