Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Isa Jere Idris has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer in the Service as his tenure expires April 24.
This would end weeks of speculations that Idris was scheming for a tenure extension.
The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, through the Board of the Civil Defence, Correctional Service, Fire and Immigration Service, ordered the change of leadership in a April 17 letter signed by the Board’s Secretary, Obasi Edmond.
Idris should have retired in April 2022 but his tenure was extended by President Muhammadu Buhari.
As at last night however, there was still no official confirmation from the Office of the Comptroller-General. The spokesperson, Tony Akuneme, is said to be on vacation in Canada.
