Aggrieved pensioners owed in Taraba have declared a seven days intensive fasting against Governor Darius Ishaku.

The pensioners, who made this known to media practitioners on Thursday in Jalingo, the State capital, said the exercise is geared towards frustrating the governor’s senatorial ambition.

Speaking through the State chairman of the union, Silas Jafta, the pensioners said they have unanimously resolved to use the seven days fasting and prayer to “beg God to stop the governor from continuing his poor leadership style in the Senate after his abortive eight years as governor.”

They claimed that the plight, which Ishaku had subjected pensioners, was “enough for them to seek God’s presence to stop his political career.”

He stressed that “For ten years now, we have not been paid our entitlements as retirees of the State government; uncountable number of retirees have died because of the situation.

“We have written severally to the government through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

“We have carried out peaceful demonstrations in demand for our legitimate entitlements but no positive result.

“We were to go out for another protest yesterday, Wednesday, but the security refused to approve our request.”
